Child Safe Policy
A clear guide to how we support child safety.
This page explains our child-safe commitments, contact pathway and collection procedures in plain language for families.
Introduction
This policy is aimed to guide all Skill Samurai team members — both paid and volunteer — on acceptable conduct while interacting with children. The document also outlines our commitment to an inclusive, transparent, and child-friendly atmosphere that promotes children's well-being and active participation.
Children's Participation
Skill Samurai encourages children to actively participate in decision-making processes and in the programs we offer. We utilise multiple channels for children to offer feedback and raise concerns, ensuring their voices are heard and respected.
Recruitment & Screening
All candidates will undergo a robust recruitment and screening process, which includes but is not limited to interviews, reference checks, and a mandatory Working With Children Check.
Training and Induction
All new team members will undergo an induction program, which includes a detailed discussion on this Child Safe Policy, led by their line manager. Regular training sessions will be held to keep the staff updated on child protection laws and best practices.
Code of Conduct
All team members are expected to abide by the Skill Samurai Codes of Conduct & Behaviour Policy which outlines acceptable and unacceptable behaviour towards children.
Complaints Management & Reporting
We encourage all stakeholders — children, parents, or employees — to voice their concerns by contacting our team. Our follow-up process includes: (1) Preliminary investigation led by the Child Safety Contact Person, with a neutral witness present. (2) If actions are found to violate child safety, reports will be made to relevant authorities. (3) The alleged individual will be temporarily suspended pending an investigation.
Legal Framework
We adhere to local and national laws concerning child protection, including but not limited to: the Child Protection (Working With Children) Act 2012, and the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998.
Communication
Both children and parents will be given copies of the Child Safe Policy, Code of Conduct, and Complaint Handling procedures upon joining our programs.
Policy Review
This policy will be reviewed biennially and updated to include suggestions from stakeholders such as employees, children, and families.
Collection procedures
Sign-In and Collection Policy
At Skill Samurai, the safety and well-being of your child are our top priorities. To ensure a smooth and secure process for drop-off and pick-up, we kindly ask all parents and guardians to follow the policy outlined below.
↓ Drop-Off
- It is the responsibility of parents/guardians to ensure their child enters the Skill Samurai centre safely. Please accompany your child inside the centre and confirm their arrival with our staff.
- We understand that some children may walk to the centre independently from school. In these cases, parents/guardians must inform us in advance.
- We are happy to send you an SMS message confirming your child has arrived safely at the centre. If you would like this service, please notify our staff.
↑ Pick-Up
- We strongly recommend that parents/guardians come into the centre to collect their child at the end of the session.
- Skill Samurai does not provide a pick-up service. It is the responsibility of parents/guardians to ensure the safe collection of their child.
- Please notify us in advance if someone other than the usual parent/guardian will be collecting your child. For security purposes, identification will be required.
- If a child is walking home alone after the session, parents/guardians must provide written consent in advance.
